The trail leaves the south end of Ouvidor Beach, passes little Nêgo Beach and follows the headland, always beside the sea, to Praia Vermelha, one of the wildest beaches in the region, already in Imbituba. It is almost all flat, with little up and down, across grazing fields and stretches of forest, and crosses four wooden bridges.

Near the end is the mullet lookout: from the top of the rocks, in season, the lookout watches the sea and, when the school arrives, raises a shirt or a flag to alert the fishermen at the shack where the canoes are kept, in the middle of Praia Vermelha.

Route

Start at the south end of Ouvidor Beach: the trail leaves about 50 m from the end of the sand. Follow the headland, through the stiles in the pasture fences and over the four wooden bridges, to the mullet lookout; from there, a wooden staircase goes down to the sand of Praia Vermelha. About 2 km one way. From Praia Vermelha, if you want to continue, walk 600 to 700 m to the end of the sand and take the trail up to the north end of Praia do Rosa.

Points of interest

  • Praia do Ouvidor: the start, at the south end of the beach.
  • Nêgo Beach: the small beach along the way, near the start.
  • Wooden bridges: four bridges over the headland, between gaps in the pasture fences.
  • Mullet lookout: the high point used to signal the arrival of the schools; from there a staircase leads down to the sand.
  • Praia Vermelha: the finish, with the fishermen's shack.
  • Praia do Rosa: to keep going, walk along Vermelha's sand and climb the trail to the north end.

What to bring

Water, sunscreen, a cap and shoes with good grip.

Safety tips

Stay on the trail: signs ask you not to leave the path, and camping is forbidden. The path crosses cattle pastures: walk calmly and do not startle the animals. At high tide the water reaches the rocks at the end of Praia Vermelha and the last stretch gets harder. There are no shops on the way or at Praia Vermelha.
