Praia do Rosa is in Imbituba, just south of Garopaba, with about 2 km of sand between green hills. In 2003 it joined the French club of the world's most beautiful bays.
From July to November, right whales sometimes come within 100 meters of the rocky shore. Next to it is Ibiraquera Lagoon, known for its sunsets and wind sports. The village has hundreds of inns and restaurants, and many streets are still unpaved.
The most visited spots
- Rosa Norte: the end where the easy trail of about 1.5 km to Praia Vermelha starts, from a wooden footbridge.
- Rosa center: the village on the hill, with guesthouses, restaurants and dirt roads.
- Rosa Sul: the end where the easy trail to Praia do Luz and Barra de Ibiraquera starts, next to a gate.
- Headlands: from July to November, right whales sometimes come within 100 meters of the rocks.
Getting there
From downtown Garopaba it is about 17 km by car: take the SC-434 toward Imbituba and Rua Vereador Laudelino Antônio Teixeira to Avenida Porto Novo, which leads to the beach.
Features
A bay surrounded by hills, rocky shores and coastal vegetation, with waves of up to 4 m on big days, sought after by experienced surfers.
Things to do
Surfing, whale watching from July to November and trails: the Caminho do Rei, about 6 km, to Praia do Luz, and the trail of about 1.5 km from Rosa Norte to Praia Vermelha. On Ibiraquera Lagoon, stand up paddle, windsurfing and kitesurfing.
Safety tips
With a big swell the waves are strong: go in with care and follow the lifeguards' instructions, when present. Watch the whales from a distance, from the rocky shore.
