Silveira Beach has 1.6 km of light, coarse sand full of shells, surrounded by hills and native vegetation, inside the Right Whale Environmental Protection Area. At the south end, behind the sand, there is a small lagoon between the pasture and the hill. It is considered one of the best surf breaks in Brazil and has hosted championships.

    The most visited spots

    • South end: the waves that made Silveira famous, breaking over a rocky bottom, and the small lagoon behind the sand.
    • Middle of the beach: waves over sandbanks, coarse sand full of shells.
    • North end: where the Casqueiro Trail arrives from Vigia; the stretch of headland to the Sphinx Rock is the Sphinx Trail.

    Getting there

From downtown Garopaba it is about 2.6 km by car: follow Rua Santa Rita and Rua Rio Grande do Sul to Estrada Geral Praia do Silveira (GRP-100). Free, open access.

    Features

At the south end, waves form perfectly over a rocky bottom; in the middle of the beach, they break over sandbanks. The sand is coarse and full of shells, and the surroundings are green hills with few buildings.

    Things to do

Surfing, walking along the sand and enjoying the small lagoon at the south end. In winter, right whales often appear close to shore, and from May to July there is artisanal mullet fishing. The Casqueiro Trail (also called the Vigia Trail) ends at the north end, coming from Praia da Vigia along the headland, with natural pools and archaeological sites.

    Safety tips

The south end is dangerous for swimming, especially for people not used to rough seas.
