Praia da Ferrugem lies between Silveira and Praia da Barra, with white sand and crystal-clear water. At the right-hand end, near Morro do Índio, natural pools form among the rocks.
The most visited spots
- South end and Morro do Índio: the calmer side, good for families, with natural pools among the rocks, a lookout and an archaeological site.
- North side: strong waves sought by surfers, and the liveliest part of the beach.
Getting there
From downtown Garopaba it is about 7.5 km by car: take Rodovia Abílio Manoel de Lima (SC-434) toward Imbituba and turn onto Estrada Geral Praia da Ferrugem (GRP-030). Free, open access.
Features
The right side is sheltered and calm, good for families with children. The other side has strong waves, popular with surfers, and a livelier atmosphere.
Things to do
Swimming, surfing and the sunset, when the landscape turns orange. At the south end is Morro do Índio, with natural pools among the rocks, a lookout over Ferrugem and Barra and Garopaba's largest archaeological site, with a shell mound and stone-tool workshops.
Safety tips
The climb to the Morro do Índio viewpoint has a moderate rocky stretch: wear sturdy shoes and take care.
