Praia da Vigia, a few minutes from Garopaba's historic center, has less than 60 meters of horseshoe-shaped sand, surrounded by houses and native vegetation. The water is calm and crystal-clear, and it feels like a quiet, tucked-away corner.

At the north end, among the rocks, there is a stone workshop made by the native peoples. From the hill next to it, lookouts once watched the sea to tell the fishers when the mullet shoals arrived (see Mirante da Vigia).

The most visited spots

  • North end: the stone-tool workshop among the rocks, made by Indigenous peoples.
  • Ponta da Vigia: the Indigenous Solar Observatory and the climb to the Vigia Viewpoint.
  • Start of the Casqueiro Trail: the path along the headland to Silveira Beach.

Getting there

On foot from Garopaba's Historic Center, along Rua São Joaquim, past Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto. The beach is the start of the Casqueiro Trail (also called the Vigia Trail), which follows the headland to Silveira Beach.

Features

A sheltered, horseshoe-shaped cove with calm, crystal-clear water.

Things to do

Swimming, snorkeling and canoeing. On Ponta da Vigia, next to it, are the Vigia Viewpoint and the Indigenous Solar Observatory. In mullet season, fishermen set their nets from the beach, and on the first weekend of February the Our Lady of Navigators procession arrives at Vigia by land and by sea.

Safety tips

A small beach surrounded by homes: respect the residents and take your trash back with you. During mullet fishing, keep the sand clear for the fishers.
