What it is
Created by State Law 19,514/2025, the Big Surf Route promotes sports tourism around big-wave surfing in Jaguaruna, Laguna, Imbituba and Garopaba. The idea came from the Big Waves Brasil movement.
What to do
On big swell days you can watch the big-wave surfers from the beaches and headlands. Going in the water in those conditions only with experience and proper gear.
Points of interest
- Praia do Silveira: Garopaba's highlight on the route, with waves up to 5 meters on classic days.
- Surfland Brasil: the wave pool, with constant waves.
- Praia da Ferrugem: home to surf contests and festivals.
Tips
To watch, stay high on the headlands or on the sand, away from the edge of the rocks, where big waves hit hard. Only go in on those days if you are experienced in big waves and have the right gear; never alone.
Dates and programs may change: check with the organizers before going.
