Lagoa do Macacu (Lagoa de Macacu on the IBGE map) lies behind the Siriú Dunes. Near the beach it receives Rio do Poeta, which comes down the hill, and it reaches the sea at the north end of Siriú Beach through the Siriú River. Where the beach meets the lagoon the water is calm and shallow, good for children.
The best place to see it from above is Mirante do Amor, also called Mirante do Macacu, with the lagoon, the dunes, the beach, the river and Ilha do Coral on the horizon.
