The Siriú Dunes are one of the most striking sights in Garopaba: a golden sand desert by the sea, overlooking Praia do Siriú.
After the summer rains, small crystal-clear pools appear between the dunes, which earned them the nickname Lençóis Catarinenses. The landscape shifts with the wind through the year.
Points of interest
- Praia do Siriú: the beach next to the dunes, Garopaba's longest.
- Roncador Dunes Lagoon: small lagoons at the foot of the dunes, in Areias de Macacu.
- Macacu Lagoon: the lagoon that meets the sea at the north end of Siriú.
- Love Viewpoint: with views of the lagoon, the dunes and Coral Island.
Getting there
Along Estrada Paulo Lopes (GRP-010), in Areias de Macacu. Easy access, always open and free.
Features
About 5 km of golden sand dunes by the sea, between Siriú Beach and Lagoa do Macacu. After the summer rains, small crystal-clear pools appear among the dunes, and the shape of the sand changes with the wind through the year.
Things to do
Sandboard down the dunes, walk across the sand, take photos and watch the sunset. From the top, the view runs from Siriú Beach to the open sea, and from July to November right whales pass close to shore. Sandboards can be rented near the dunes. To see the dunes from above, with the lagoon, go to Mirante do Amor.
Safety tips
Sun and heat on the sand are strong: bring water, a hat and sunscreen.
