Mirante do Siriú, also called Mirante do Siriú Norte, is a wooden deck built on top of the rocky headland at the north end of Siriú Beach. From up there you see the beach from end to end, with the Siriú Dunes to the south, the open sea and the islands offshore, such as Siriú Islet.
It is a short outing that fits into any beach day: from the north end it is about 150 meters along a grassy path and up a wooden staircase to the deck.
Points of interest
- Praia do Siriú: seen end to end from the top.
- Siriú Dunes: south of the beach.
- Siriú Islet: one of the islands offshore.
- Poet's River: meets the sea at the same north end of the beach.
Getting there
Go to the north end of Siriú Beach, about 9 km from downtown Garopaba, via Rodovia Jovino Piucco (GRP-010) and Estrada Geral da Praia do Siriú. From the beach, take the headland path: about 150 m across the grass to the wooden staircase that climbs to the deck.
Features
A wooden deck resting on the boulders of the headland, with chairs and a bench. The path to the stairs is short and almost flat, across the grass; the wooden staircase is steep, with a handrail.
Things to do
Take in the beach and the sea from above, take photos and rest in the deck chairs. The north headland is the best place in Siriú to watch the sunrise, and from July to November it is worth bringing binoculars to look for southern right whales. The Rio do Poeta and the start of the trail to Praia da Gamboa are at the same end of the beach.
Safety tips
There is no shade on the deck or along the path: bring water, a cap and sunscreen. The stairs are steep: go up and down slowly, holding the handrail, and hold children by the hand. In the rain, the stairs and the grass get slippery. Stay on the deck and do not climb down to the rocks, where the waves hit hard.
