Siriú Waterfall is on the Siriú hill, in the native forest, and is a good alternative to the beaches on the hottest days. Cool fresh water runs between big boulders, forming small falls and pools, in a quiet, shady setting. Rio do Poeta comes down from this area, crossing the neighborhood and reaching the sea at the north end of Siriú Beach.
Points of interest
- Freshwater pools: among the big rocks, good for a swim on hot days.
- Poet's River: flows down from here through the neighborhood to the sea.
- Praia do Siriú: to continue after the waterfall.
- Siriú Viewpoint: at the north end of the beach, with views end to end.
Getting there
A short, easy, well-marked trail of about 800 m (some 20 minutes on foot), good for families. It is on Rua Osório Pio do Nascimento, in the Siriú area.
Features
A main fall over the rocks and several pools and small cascades along the stream, with clear fresh water, forest all around and big rocks to sit on in the shade.
Things to do
Swim in the pools, have a picnic on the rocks and rest in the shade of the forest. Combine it with Siriú Beach, Rio do Poeta and Siriú Viewpoint, at the north end of the beach.
Safety tips
Wear comfortable shoes and bring water and insect repellent. Wet rocks are slippery: move carefully and do not jump into the pools without knowing the depth. After rain, the water comes down hard: check access conditions first.
